- Still solving problems rendering shave with mayaman and maya.
- Great words from a techincal staff of cafeFx
"Dedicate yourself to understanding what you are trying to achieve and understand the "insides" of the tools you are choosing. Too many talented artists get "choked" by the possibilities of the software, while the limitation should become the human brain only. Create your own personal standards, facing the deadlines given. After delivering, especially if completion was successful, go on and improve on your own time and come up with more accentuated and elaborated setups. Always attack the shots you have with the most pipeline-driven mentality. Try to build a setup that will not only allow your effects goal to be reached but will also make the next 100 shots achieve the same homogenic quality. At first it will take more time to determine rules to drive your particles versus animated keys and events. But in the long run, it will allow you to grow your workflow and capability to reach higher grounds."

- WATCHED <> TODAY !!! Quite like the story. See the CG piano fly-through shot ? Almost the most blurred shot in the whole firm, is the only shot I took part in.

- Still busy with hair stuff, a timing consuming task for testing out each parameter.

- Studying fur stuff recently, maya fur, maya hair, shave, and rendering with 3delight, mayaman and maya. Still finding ways to render a character having over 1.5 million hair.
- Studying the algorithm of some basic rendering stuff such at raytracing, shadow map, and deep shadow map. Something every lighter should know but no one take that seriously.
- Hybrid use of mayaman and 3delight in production. What a mess !

- Had a chance to take the course taught by Paolo Berto, a mentalray & renderman guru, talking about professional use of finalgather, raytracing, photon map and much more.
- After working the working hours of a normal animator, I feel that the tools I wrote to them could be a life-saver, but a problem-maker too. Em, I know more about what to do now.

- Photo with Jay Chow.
- Studying the doc of mayaman. Manual is always the first thing and last thing to read.
- Keeping using the latest functions in maya and fixing unexpected problem. "The best way to escape from a tunnel is to go through it".

- Having a cold this week. Everything runs faster after taking the medicine.
- Watched "Priates of the Caribbean 3" in the theater which was almost full. Just as great as Spiderman 3.
- Trying fixing a serious bug of geometry caching in maya 8.5. Once again things are not always running as expected.

- Every day is similar this week. People don't know something I find trivial while I still don't understand something they know years ago. Scene referencing, hair system setup, influence editing, skin weight editing, uv and shader transfer, motion transfer, namespace editing, wrap deformer editing, mayaman rendering, and unknown maya errors.
- Problems are coming from everywhere. Is it so technical ? Sometimes yes, sometines no. Becoming more like a technical director ... life is not easy.
- Keep watching the TV programme << 文化風情 >> every Sunday at 8:30 at ATV. It's great learning from those famous Chinese artists, especially when looking at them painting.

- A storyboard artist I admired just left the company. Too bad.
- Working on some workflow stuff ... connection and using of geometry cache, hairSystem cache, nurbs hair geometry cache, cloth cache, cloth geometry cache.
- Working on a full-cg film. Studying how to make keying facials and lipsyn efficient for a whole production team. An interesting thing to study and improve.

- A pleasant music to listen ...
- Try solving some fur problem and study about renderman rib at the same time.
